'''Minuscule 478''' (in the [[Biblical manuscript#Gregory-Aland|Gregory-Aland]] numbering), α 1126 (in the [[Biblical manuscript#Von Soded|Soden]] numbering), is a [[Greek language|Greek]] [[Lower case|minuscule]] [[manuscript]] of the [[New Testament]], on parchment. [[Paleography|Paleographically]] it had been assigned to the 10th century.<sup>[1]</sup> 
Scrivener labelled it by number 575.<sup>[2]</sup>

== Description ==

The codex contains the text of the [[Gospel]]s on 268 parchment leaves (size {{×|17.5|12}}), with only one [[Lacuna (manuscripts)|lacunae]] (John 11:18-41). Written in one column per page, 26 lines per page.<sup>[3]</sup>
It contains [[Epistula ad Carpianum]], Eusebian tables, tables of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, τιτλοι, Ammonian Sections, [[Eusebian Canons]], lectionary markings, subscriptions, [[Stichometry|στιχοι]], and scholia.<sup>[3]</sup><sup>[2]</sup> 
The manuscript is elegantly and correctly written.<sup>[3]</sup>
It contains the pericope [[Jesus and the woman taken in adultery|John 7:53-8:11]] but marked with [[obelus]].<sup>[3]</sup>

== Text ==

The Greek text of the codex is a representative of the [[Byzantine text-type]]. [[Kurt Aland|Aland]] placed it in [[Categories of New Testament manuscripts#Category V|Category V]].<sup>[4]</sup>

== History ==

The manuscript once belonged to Bishop of [[Caesarea Palaestina]]. It was brought to the [[British Museum]] in 1838. [[Henry Howard]], Evelyn's Duke of Norfolk, presented it to the [[Royal Society]]. It was transferred in 1831 to the [[British Museum]].<sup>[2]</sup>

The manuscript was examined and collated by [[Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener|Scrivener]], who published its text in 1852.<sup>[3]</sup> The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Scrivener. It was re-examined by Bloomfield. Gregory saw it in 1883.

It is currently housed at the [[British Library]] (Add 11300) in [[London]].<sup>[1]</sup>
