Minuscule 636 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering), α 598 (von Soden),[1] is a Greek minuscule manuscript of the New Testament, on paper. Palaeographically it has been assigned to the 15th century. The manuscript has complex contents.[2] Formerly it was labeled by 174a and 212p.[3] == Description == The codex contains the text of the Acts of the Apostles, Catholic epistles, Pauline epistles, on 211 paper leaves (size 22 cm by 14.5 cm).[2] The end of the Hebrews was supplemented in the 16th century. It is written in one column per page, 22-27 lines per page.[2] It contains Prolegomena, tables of the κεφαλαια before each book, lectionary markings, incipits, subscriptions at the end of each book, and στιχοι.[3][4] The order of books: Acts of the Apostles, Catholic epistles, and Pauline epistles. Epistle to the Hebrews is placed after Epistle to Philemon.[4] It contains the Comma Johanneum in the margin added by a later hand. == Text == Kurt Aland the Greek text of the codex did not place in any Category.[5] == History == The manuscript was written by Presbyter Nicolaus.[4] It is dated by the INTF to the 15th century.[6] The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Johann Martin Augustin Scholz, who slightly examined the major part of the manuscript. Gregory saw it in 1886.[4] Formerly it was labeled by 174a and 212p. In 1908 Gregory gave the number 636 to it.[1] The manuscript currently is housed at the Biblioteca Nazionale (Ms. II. A. 9), at Naples.[2][6] == Elijah Hixson == Elijah Hixson said: :GA 636 is a 15th-century manuscript, but again the CJ looks like a later hand. It lacks the definite articles, so it could be an independent translation of the Latin. It’s textually similar to Erasmus’ third edition except that it lacks οὗτοι, which Erasmus has. We know that the manuscript came to the Biblioteca Nazionale in Naples (where it is Ms. II. A. 9) from an Augustinian Monastery associated with what is today the Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara in Naples. That seems to give the manuscript itself a 15th-century Roman Catholic provenance, though it is unclear when the marginal addition was written. It does have numerous Greek and Latin notes, both in the margins and interlinearly, and an interesting study might be for someone to go through 636 and try to identify the source of these notes. ==Rodrigo Galiza and John W. Reeve== In the artcile The Johannine Comma (1 John 5:7–8): The Status of its Textual History and Theological Usage in English, Greek, and Latin. Rodrigo Galiza and John W. Reeve say: :Again, the inclusion of manuscript 635 is apparently residual from the typo in Metzger’s first edition of Text of the New Testament as copied by Marshall (The Epistles of John, 236). Metzger clarifies that manuscript 636 includes the comma in a marginal reading, not 635 (A Textual Commentary, 2nd ed., 648).
