Hunt was born in [[Romford]], [[Essex, England]]. Over the course of many years, Hunt, along with [[Bernard Pyne Grenfell|Bernard Grenfell]], recovered many [[papyrus|papyri]] from excavation sites in Egypt, including the [[Oxyrhynchus Papyri]].
