1節. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
かくてイエスの十二弟子に諭すことを終り給ひしときかくありき、彼等の市市(まちまち)にて教へまた宣ぶるために彼処より移り給へり。
2節
Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
またヨハネ獄屋のうちにてキリストの行(わざ)を聞き、二〔人の〕弟子等を遺はして、
3節
And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
彼にいへり、汝は来とり給ふ者なるや、或は我等他を待つべきか。
4節
Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
さればイエス答へて彼等に曰へり、往きて汝等の聞くところ、また視る〔ところ〕をヨハネに報ぜよ。
5節
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
盲者(めしい)は視力を受け、また跛者(あしなえ)は歩み、癩病の者は淨められ、また聾者(みみしい)は聞き、死人は起され、また貧しき者は福音を宣伝へらる。
6節.
And blessed is [he], whosoever shall not be offended in me.
されば誰にても我に躓かされざる者は福(さいわい)なる者なり。
7節
And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
かくて此等の者の往きしとき、イエス諸群衆にヨハネに就きて云ひ始め給へり。汝等何を看んとて荒野に出で来りしや。風に揺らるる葦なるか。。
8節
But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft [clothing] are in kings' houses.
されど何を見んとて出で来りしや。柔なる衣にて装はる人なるか。見よ、柔らなる〔衣を〕着たる者は王の家にあり。
9節
But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
されど汝等は何を見んとて出で来たりしや。豫言者なるか、然り、われ汝等に云はん、豫言者より尚ほ勝れる者を〔見んとてなり〕。
10節
For this is [he], of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
そは此の者は、見よ、われ汝の顔の前に我が使を使わさん、彼は汝は先立ちて、汝の道を備へんとす、と録されたる者なればなり。
11節
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
誠にわれ汝等に云はん、婦の生める者のうちにバプテズマのヨハネより大なる者は起らざりき。されど天国に於ける最少なる者は、彼よりも尚ほ大なり。
12節
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
されどバプテズマのヨハネの日より「今に至るまで、天国は烈(はげ)しく攻めらる、また烈しく攻むる者はこれを奪い去る。
13節
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
そはすべての豫言者等と掟との豫言したるはヨハネまでなればなり。
14節
And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias, which was for to come.
されば汝等もし受けんと欲せば、彼は来たらんとするエリヤなり。
15節
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
聞くべき耳をもつ者は聞くべし。
16節
But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
されどわれ此の代を何に等(ひと)しうすべきや。市場に坐し、且つその侶(とも)を呼びて、
17節
And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
汝等のために我等笛吹きたれども汝等踊らず、また汝等のために我等悲しみたれども汝等胸打たざりき、と云ふ童(わらべ)等に等(ひと)しきなり。
18節
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
そはヨハネ到りて食せずまたの飲まざれば、彼は悪鬼に憑かる、と彼等云ひ、
19節
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom
is justified of her children.
人の子到りて食しまた飲むときは、則(すなは)ち見よ、食を貪り酒を嗜む人、関税人また罪人どもの友と、彼等云へばなり。されど智慧はその児等に義とせられたり。
20節
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
その時」彼は多くの力ある行の発りし市々を非難し始め給へり。そは彼等の悔い改めざりしが故なり。
21節
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
汝は禍なるかな、コラジンよ。汝は禍なるかな、ベテサイダよ。そは汝等のうちにて発りし力ある行の、もしツロとシドントにて発りしならんには、彼等は疾(と)くに麻と灰にて悔い改めたればなり。
22節
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
されどわれ汝等に云はん、裁の日には汝等のためよりも、ツロとシドンのためには尚ほ耐へ易かるべし。
23節
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
されば汝、天にまで挙げられたるカペナウムよ、汝は陰府(よみ)に下されたるならん。そは汝のうちにて発りし力ある行の、もしソドムにて発りしならんには、今日に至るまで存したればなり。
24節
But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
されどわれ汝等に云はん、裁の日には汝等のためよりも、ソドムの地のためには尚ほ耐へ易かるべし。
25節
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
その期にイエス答へて曰へり、父よ、天と地との主よ、我汝に感謝しまつる、そは汝は此等の事を智者と識者とより隠して、小児等に黙示し給ひたればなり。
26節.
Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
然り父よ、そは此の如きは汝の前に悦とし給ひしが故なり。
27節
All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and [he] to whomsoever the Son will reveal [him].
すべてのものは我が父より我に授けられたり。また父の外に子を審かに知る者なく、また子及び子の黙示するを欲する者の外に、誰も父を審かに知らず。
28節
Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
すべて労(ろう)する者(もの)、また重荷(おもに)を負(ふ)へる者(もの)は我(われ)が許(もと)に来(こ)れ、さればわれ汝(なんじ)を休(やす)ましめん。
29節
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
我は心柔和に且つ卑(ひ)くければ、汝等わが軛(くびき)をお負ひて我に学べ、されば汝等その魂のために休を見出すべし。
30節
For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.
そは我が軛は易く、また我が荷は軽ければなり。
