Verse 1 The book of the generation1 of Jesus Christ, the son of David2, the son of Abraham3.

GENEALOGY OF JESUS ACCORDING TO MATTHEW. Matthew 1:1-17
The book of the generation. Or genealogy.
Of Jesus Christ, the son of David. The Messiah was promised to David (2 Samuel 7:16; John 7:42).
The son of Abraham. Messiah was also promised to Abraham (Genesis 22:18; Galatians 3:16).
