Isaiah 9:3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

The NIV says: "You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy" The KJV has the word “not” and the NIV doesn’t. So, the KJV says that God has NOT increased their joy. The NIV says that God HAS increased their joy. They say the EXACT OPPOSITE.

NKJV

  • You have multiplied the nation and increased its joy; they rejoice before You according to the joy of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
  • Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

The NKJV makes the text say the exact opposite to the KJV. In the NKJV footnotes it says:

Isaiah 9:3 Following Qere and Targum; Kethib and Vulgate read not increased joy; Septuagint reads Most of the people You brought down in Your joy.
