+ | The NASB and NIV omit WISE from "only wise God" -(P72, Sinaiticus and Vaticanus omit "wise") - and omit the word AND, though it is found in P72 which predates Sinaticus and Vaticanus by about 100 years. The NASB - NIV say: "to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, BEFORE ALL AGES, now and forevermore. Amen."
+ | |||
+ | |||
+ | All of these eight added words in the NIV represent 10 extra words in the Greek which come form the -Vaticanus, Sinaticus, A and C. These extra 10 words are NOT found in the vast Majority of all Greek texts, nor are they found in the Greek Bible used by the Greek Orthodox churches all over the world today. The few manuscripts that DO contain them are in disagreement even with each other. For example, Sinaticus omits the word pantas (ALL) while included in B and A, but what is quite interesting here is that P72, which is 100 years older than Sinaticus and Vaticanus, does not contain these added eight words but reads like the King James Bible, though it does omit the word "wise".
+ | |||
+ | The oldest manuscript we have reads as does the KJB in this particular verse (except for "wise").

+ | The confusion most probably came about when those compiling the final text saw καὶ (both) was missing from Beza's text, and the 1602 and assumed it to be an original reading. But in the original translators would have worked to smoothed the reading to match other readings, such as in 2 Peter 3:18 which has the same Greek, but was mismatched in earlier English editions. Having the Bod1602 AND the "originall" read the same error, caused this error to be reinserted into the print edition, whereas I think the "originall" was known to the main translators who would have have naturally corrected the 1602 following rule 1: "The ordinary Bible read in the Church, commonly called the Bishops' Bible, to be followed, and as little altered as the original will permit." It was probably oversight later on by a later editor or printer. The 1637 still has the omission whereas the 1638 corrects it.

only wise God
Will Kinney
The NASB and NIV omit WISE from "only wise God" -(P72, Sinaiticus and Vaticanus omit "wise") - and omit the word AND, though it is found in P72 which predates Sinaticus and Vaticanus by about 100 years. The NASB - NIV say: "to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, BEFORE ALL AGES, now and forevermore. Amen."
All of these eight added words in the NIV represent 10 extra words in the Greek which come form the -Vaticanus, Sinaticus, A and C.
The oldest manuscript we have reads as does the KJB in this particular verse (except for "wise").
"both now" or just "now"
Scrivener added the καὶ without mentioning it in his 190 differences from Beza. Beza has “καὶ νῦν εἰς” whereas Scrivener follows Stephanus with “καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς”.

- ____ now and for euer. Coverdale (1535)
- ____ now and for euer. Matthew's (1537)

- Dutch has "both" - beide nu en in alle eeuwigheid.
The translators would have inserted "both" to harmonize with 2 Peter 3:18
- But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 1900 KJV

The confusion most probably came about when those compiling the final text saw καὶ (both) was missing from Beza's text, and the 1602 and assumed it to be an original reading.
