Minuscule 500

Minuscule 500 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering), ε 223 (in the Soden numbering), is a Greek minuscule manuscript of the New Testament, on parchment. Palaeographically it had been assigned to the 13th century.<ref name = Aland>Kurt Aland, M. Welte, B. Köster, K. Description

The codex contains the text of the four Gospels on 244 parchment leaves (size 20.6 by 14.8 cm) with some lacunae (John 18:7-21; 19:40-21:25). Written in one column per page, 23 lines per page.<ref name = Scrivener/> It contains the Epistula ad Carpianum, tables of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, τιτλοι, Ammonian Sections (Mark 234 - 16:9), (not Eusebian Canons), lectionary markings, αναγνωσεις, and subscriptions.<ref name = Gregory>Caspar René Gregory, Textkritik des Neuen Testaments (Leipzig, 1900), Vol. 1, p. 196. </ref><ref name = Scrivener/> It lacks Eusebian tables but there is space for it. Synaxarion and Menologion added by a later hand on paper.<ref name = Gregory/>

Text

The Greek text of the codex is a representative of the Byzantine text-type. History

The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Scrivener. It was examined by Bloomfield, Scrivener, and Gregory.<ref name = Gregory/>

It is currently housed at the British Library (Additional Manuscripts, 17982) in London.<ref name = Aland/>
