Luke 24:1

(KJV) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

Affected Teaching

(Luke 24:10 KJV) It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. Verse one and verse ten confirm each other that there was a number of women who went to the tomb beside the three named in verse 10. There is no reason why the phrase “and certain others with them” should have been removed from the text since it was confirmed in verse ten. Now here may be a reason why the Gnostics removed this phrase. The word in Greek “tines” (tines) for “certain others” is actually a masculine pronoun, so there may have been some men that went to the tomb along with the women. It is possible that they were brought along to remove the stone because of its weight. It is also interesting that God does not mention who they were but focuses the passage on the women. In Judaism, a woman’s testimony on legal matters was excluded but now they were being the first ones to witness to the resurrection of Christ. I believe God is now saying that the old gender bias of Judaism is now over and women are now equal to men in Christianity. God had elevated the women to a new status unheard of in Judaism. (Gal 3:28 KJV) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. There must have been quite a number of those who initially went to the tomb but since Gnostics only believed in a spiritual resurrection rather than a physical one, the modern versions have also done what they can to attack the resurrection.
